Christmas garland for the staircase that stays wrapped around the banister

A Christmas garland around the staircase banister is the kind of decoration you put up once a year and then look at all month — and that is exactly where most garlands go wrong. They hang straight, sag and come loose from the banister halfway along. This garland of artificial pine branches has a wire-reinforced core: you twist it around the banister and balusters, and it holds its shape. Available in four lengths from 120 to 270 cm, so you can choose the garland based on the length of your staircase instead of tying two together.

Why this garland works on a staircase

• Flexible wire core: twist the garland around the banister and spindles, and it stays where you put it.
• Four lengths - 120, 150, 180 and 270 cm: measure your banister and choose the length that wraps around it in one piece.
• 20 to 80 side branches: 20 at 120 cm, 35 at 150 cm, 50 at 180 cm and 80 at 270 cm, so the garland remains equally full at every length.
• Dense pine greenery: the branches overlap, so the wire core does not show through when the garland is wrapped around a rail.
• No needles on the stairs: the artificial branches do not shed, which makes all the difference on a staircase used by children and bare feet.
• Indoors and outdoors: you can then use the same garland around a fence or along a balcony.

How to choose the length

For a straight staircase, allow for approximately the length of the banister plus one third, because twisting the garland makes it shorter than its stated length. For a standard straight staircase spanning one floor, the 270 cm version is generally the closest fit; for a short walkway handrail or part of a banister, 120 or 150 cm is enough. A 270 cm garland is taller than a door, so keep in mind that it really extends across several steps - that is also what makes it work on a staircase rather than looking like a loose branch on a table.
