Which size for which wine

The rule of thumb is that full-bodied red wines benefit most from a large glass because they need air: 760 or 530 ml is ideal for them. Crisp white wines and champagne retain their chill and bubbles better in a smaller glass, so choose 390 or 440 ml. When using a 760 ml glass, don’t pour more than about a third full; that may feel counterintuitive with such a large bowl, but the empty space is exactly why you bought it. Hand-wash thin-walled crystal in lukewarm water and dry it with a linen cloth afterward—a dishwasher on a high-temperature setting can dull the rim over time, and thin rims are more likely to break.
