Most front doors are lit by a single lamp above the door, creating exactly the effect you don’t want: a beam of light pointing straight down, a dark facade around it, and shadows across the face of anyone ringing the doorbell. This linear outdoor light hangs vertically beside the door and casts a slim line of light along the facade, making the entire entrance visible. The fixture is just 5 cm wide and available in lengths from 30 to 200 cm. On a standard 200 cm-high front door, a 120 cm light is just the right proportion. It is made of metal with an acrylic diffuser and is IP65 weather-resistant.

Choosing the right length and placement

As a rule of thumb for an entrance, choose a light that is about half to two-thirds the height of the door and hang it so the center of the fixture is at eye level, around 150 cm. For a standard 200 cm door, that means the 100 or 120 cm version. For double doors or a tall facade, the 170 or 200 cm version keeps the proportions balanced; for a narrow side door or shed door, 30 or 60 cm is enough. Two lights on either side of the door create the most symmetrical look, but a single light on the hinge side works just as well on a narrow facade. The same light is also suitable along a garden wall, gate pillar or outdoor passageway.
